Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening products on the market today whether in the dentist’s office or over the counter offer ways in which to whiten your teeth so you have a pretty smile and more confidence. All teeth whitening products work on the stains that are on the surface while some go deeper and eliminate external stains.

There are many things that can stain our teeth often only on the surface or what is known as superficial staining. The enamel on the teeth as we age becomes porous as this occurs the teeth can begin to have nicks and cracks. All of these small blemishes can begin to accumulate food particles etc… which causes staining. The main reason this occurs is that the small little cracks and crevices are not reachable with your toothbrush. This means the food particles will build up in the areas until you have your teeth professionally cleaned. As the particles stay in an area they teeth begin to look darker. Just because your visit your dentist on a regular basis does not mean your teeth will become white and bright again.

All the foods you eat can also cause stains on your teeth such as coffee, tea, and wine. If you have small cracks and crevices in your teeth these items are surely going to aid in staining in your teeth. Once this begins to occur the only answer is with teeth whitening.

Intrinsic staining is another problem that causes the teeth to look dingy. This is a product of aging, slow tooth damage due to dietary issues, or even other habits such as smoking. Even those that have heavy amounts of fluoride in their water or use toothpaste high in fluoride can see signs of intrinsic staining. This type of staining is not a superficial stain but a deep staining and cannot be removed without a teeth-whitening procedure.

When you decide to whiten your teeth, you will soon learn there are all kinds of over the counter products that will work to some degree. Before choosing which product to use, you should talk with your dentist. He or she will be able to give you an idea of which products will work best for your type of staining.

You can find whitening toothpastes, at home tray based bleaching products, dentist provided at home products, and of course dental office whitening procedures. Before choosing, you should learn which products work best for what types of stains. In most cases, if you plan to visit your dentist and let him do the procedure, you will be spending quite a bit of money; on the other hand, he or she will be performing a professional job that will ensure you have the whitest teeth possible. Many of the chooses will be determined by the amount of money you wish to spend to have that sparkling white smile.
